Advance Lottery Tickets: What are they and how do you get them?
We all know that playing the lottery is fun, but it can get to be a little tedious having to travel to buy a lotto ticket every day, especially if you are playing the same numbers. Are you the kind of person who likes to think ahead? Do you like to stay ahead of the game? Many states have recognized this and have introduced the ideas of advanced play and subscription play that allow you to purchase tickets in advance.
Advance Mega Millions Tickets
All participating Mega Millions lottery states offer advance play tickets. The number of advance plays available for each state differs, however. New York and Virginia allow 26 advance plays; California and Michigan allow 20 advance plays; Illinois, Maryland and Massachusetts allow 15 advance plays; Georgia, Ohio, Texas and Washington allow 10 advance plays; and New Jersey allows 4 advance plays.
Advance Powerball Tickets
Not many states allow subscription lottery plays, which involves an automatic payment or repurchase option. Subscriptions are usually offered for up to one year. There are 4 powerball states that do allow subscription - North Dakota, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
Many states offer advance draws, or multi-draws, for the powerball game. Just like Mega Millions, the amount of advance plays varies by state for Powerball. (For Powerball, one week equals 2 drawings.) Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island offer drawings 13 weeks in advance; Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia offer drawings 12 weeks in advance; Washington DC, Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Vermont offer drawings 10 weeks in advance; Kansas and Missouri offer drawings 7.5 weeks in advance; Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and the Virgin Islands offer drawings 5 weeks in advance; North Dakota and South Dakota offer drawings 4.5 weeks in advance; Minnesota and Wisconsin offer drawings 4 weeks in advance; and Oregon offers drawings 2 weeks in advance.
Individual State Advance Play Options
Individual states also offer advance plays and subscriptions for their specific state lotteries.
Arizona Lottery
The Arizona Lotto offers up to 10 consecutive draws for Powerball and The Pick and 12 consecutive draws for Pick 5 and Pick 3.
Colorado Lottery
The Colorado Lotto offers Advance Play at Lottery retail locations throughout Colorado. You can purchase up to 26 advance plays for Lotto. Colorado also offers advance play for Cash 5. You can purchase up to 78 advance plays for Cash 5.
Florida Lottery
To purchase Advance Play Tickets in Florida, simply request an advance playslip or use the convenient advance play boxes on your Florida lottery playslip. You can purchase up to 52 consecutive drawings for the Florida Lotto; up to 30 consecutive drawings for Mega Money; up to 30 consecutive drawings for Fantasy 5; up to 14 consecutive drawings for Play 4 and Cash 3.
Illinois Lottery
In Illinois, Lotto, Mega Millions, and Little Lotto tickets can be purchased in advance for up to 15 consecutive drawings. Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets can be purchased for seven days in advance. Just tell your ticket agent you want Advance Play.
Maine Lottery
Tri-State Megabucks & Maine Powerball tickets can be purchased in advance for up to 20 consecutive drawings. Paycheck tickets can be purchased for 20 consecutive drawings, and Pick 3/Pick4 tickets can be purchased for 7 days in advance.
Maryland lottery
The Maryland lottery allows you to purchase a ticket for up to 7 consecutive drawings in advance. If you win during that week you don’t have to wait until the end of the week to cash in. If you win, just go to any Lottery Retailer, cash in your winning ticket, and pick up a replacement ticket for the remaining days.
Massachusetts lottery
The Massachusetts lottery offers an assortment of advanced drawings. Season Tickets for the Megabucks, Mass Cash and Mega Millions Games can be purchased for $25 (26 drawings), $50 (52 drawings) or $100 (104 drawings). Season Tickets for Cash Winfall can be purchased for $50 (26 drawings) , $100 (52 drawings), and $200 (104 drawings).
Massachusetts season tickets have an added bonus. If you win, all prizes except the jackpot prize, are mailed directly to you. Season tickets for Mega Millions are also available.
Montana Lottery
The Montana Lottery offers advance tickets called multiple draws. Multiple draws allows you to purchase Powerball, Montana Cash, Wild Card, and Hot Lotto tickets in advance for up to 24 consecutive drawings.
New York lottery
The New York Lottery offers 2 games by subscription - Lotto or Lotto Extra (with drawings held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday evenings) and Mega Millions (with drawings held twice a week on Tuesday and Friday evenings). To subscribe to these games, simply download an application from the official website and mail it to the marked address.
North Dakota lottery
The North Dakota Lottery offers subscriptions for Powerball, Hot Lotto, Wild Card 2, and 2 by 2. With the North Dakota Lottery subscription you will automatically be entered into every draw without leaving home. You can choose to play 13, 26, or 52 weeks in advance.
If you win a prize of $5 or less, your subscription will automatically be extended and if you win more than $5 a check will be sent to you.
South Dakota Lottery
The South Dakota Lottery offers advance ticket purchase for up to nine drawings in advance. To purchase advance tickets, simply visit your local Lottery retailer.
Tennessee Lotto
In Tennessee, you may purchase Powerball tickets up to 10 drawings in advance, Lotto Plus and Pick 5 tickets up to 12 drawings in advance, and Cash 3 and Cash 4 up to 7 drawing days in advance.
Virginia Lottery
The Virginia lottery allows advance purchases for Cash 5, Pick 4, and Pick 3 Lottos for day, night and both drawings. You can also purchase advance plays for Win For Life for up to 26 draws.
